First the Giro d’Italia, now the Critérium du Dauphiné. Sprinters must be rueing their luck as Britain’s Pete Kennaugh (Team Sky) broke away to take a solo victory on a stage that should have been contested by the fast men.
The Dauphiné is the first traditional warm-up race to the Tour de France, with the likes of Chris Froome (Team Sky) and Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) going head-to-head.
But while the first couple of stages won’t see much GC action, here you can get an on-board insight into a ride at the French WorldTour race, as Murilo Fischer and Laurent Pichon of FDJ and Reto Hollenstein and Stef Clement of IAM Cycling strap on the bike cameras on day one.
Look out for a small spill with a Movistar rider – we’re not entirely sure which of our hosts was involved, but both riders seem to get and recover.
The Dauphiné continues on Monday with another stage that should suit the sprinters, with a category one climb coming well over 100km from the finish. It’s then on to a team time trial for the riders, with 24.5km test for the teams on Tuesday.
