Roman Kreuziger career profile

Roman Kreuziger is currently one of the most prodigious young stage racing prospects in professional cycling and is already being touted as a future Tour de France winner.

Kreuziger moved to Switzerland at the age of just 15 to pursue his dream of becoming a professional cyclist. A spell in Italy followed and his talent was quickly apparent, winning a host of U19 races, including the U19 World Championships in Verona in 2004.

His amateur results helped him to his first professional contract with the Liquigas team, whom he joined in 2006. He demonstrated his stage racing potential with sixth overall in the Tour of Romandy in 2007.

He also made his Grand Tour debut in 2007, with an impressive 21st overall in the Vuelta a España. If Kreuziger was making his mark in the professional peloton in 2007, he made a genuine breakthrough in 2008.

He was a surprise winner of the Tour of Switzerland and then topped a fine season with 13th overall in the Tour de France at his first attempt.

A strong climber, a fine time triallist and an excellent all-rounder, Kreuziger has all the ingredients to be a prolific Grand Tour winner.
