CAVENDISH CELEBRATES TENTH WIN IN SOUTHAMPTON

Mark Cavendish celebrated his tenth win of the 2007 season in Southampton, holding up ten fingers as he crossed the line after winning yet another sprint.

Cavendish had a perfect led out from T-Mobile team mate Roger Hammond and said he only finished off their excellent work.

?It was a perfect win. To be fair I don?t think I can take any credit for it," said Cavendish. "I have to give to the rest of the team because they did an amazing job and I didn?t really have to do anything.?

?Ian Stannard rode on the front early on and then Frankie (Rabon) and Roger (Hammond) did a perfect job in the sprint. Roger took me even further than I needed to and so I couldn?t lose really.?

?It was windy out there and a team could have done a lot of damage if they?d attacked but we controlled it, with Ian Stannard pulling really. He did an amazing job and deserves first spot on the massage table.?

Cavendish has now won ten major professional races in his first full season with T-Mobile. He knows he will probably not catch Italy?s Alessandro Petacchi as the most successful rider of the season but he is pleased just to have equalled Robbie McEwen?s debut season total and is close to own objective of 11 wins.

?It?s brilliant winning ten races and now I?m just one to go to my season target of eleven. Robbie (McEwen) got seven or eight win in Europe and took a few in Australia to get ten in his first a season. I?ve matched that now and so I?m really happy.?

Cavendish now has a 14 second lead in the Tour of Britain and will again wear the yellow jersey and bright yellow shorts but admitted he is worried about Tuesday?s second road stage from Yeovilton to Taunton. The second half of the stage includes three steep climbs and could revolutionise the overall standings.

?Fourteen seconds isn?t a massive gap and I?m scared of tomorrow?s stage. It?s a tough parcours but fortunately I know that if I don?t keep the yellow jersey I know there are riders like Frantisek (Rabon) who can get it. He?s going really well.?
