After the resounding success of the Manchester event, Great Britain head to the Melbourne Track World Cup with both a reduced squad and reduced expectation.

Having garnered a healthy raft of qualifying points in the national velodrome, the likes of Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton have been rested.

A skeleton squad of twelve will be competing in Australia, with several young riders given a chance to impress.

"We're here to qualify for the world championships, everyone's travelled pretty well," confirmed British Cycling endurance coach Dan Hunt. "We wanted to make sure we carried form over from Manchester so we could score big in two rounds," he added.

There are high hopes for repeats of the gold-medal winning performances seen three weeks ago in the pursuit quartet of Burke, Clancy, Fenn and Tennant and the women's trio of Colclough, Houvenaghel and Rowsell.

Former points race world champion Chris Newton also makes the journey, as do sprint medal prospects Matt Crampton and Ross Edgar.

"We're going to come and give it everything we've got, we've had a big block of training so everyone's pretty tired," Hunt said.

He also pinpointed the Australian and New Zealand track teams, in fine form from the Oceania championships, as their big rivals.

The Melbourne World Cup runs from November 19 to November 21.
