Brough Wheelers rider Chris Auker died after being in a collision with a car towing a caravan on the A63 in East Yorkshire on Good Friday.

The incident happened while veteran Auker was competing in the City Road Club (Hull) 10-mile time trial, which was immediately abandoned by organisers.

Tributes have been paid on internet forums to the rider, who was reaching the end of his ride on the V718 course near South Cave.

Reknowned for fast times, the V718 has seen many competition records broken and always attracts good fields of riders wanting to benefit from the super-fast surface and often ideal conditions.

The City RC event had 150 riders on the start sheet, including national title winners and Olympic track Gold medallist Jo Rowsell.

The westbound carriageway was closed for several hours after the crash, with traffic diverted through nearby Brough while Police investigations were carried out.
