Premier Calendar 2012: Introduction
Although the series dates back to 1959, this year marks the 20th year in which it has been called the Premier Calendar. Initially known as the Star Trophy, it was renamed the Pernod Star Trophy between 1975 and 1983, before reverting to its original title for another decade.

There have been ups and downs since it became the Premier Calendar, which reflects the difficulties of organising events on British roads. Back in 1994 there were 14 Premier Calendar events. Of those, only the Tour DoonHame (formerly the Girvan stage race) and the Lincoln Grand Prix survive. At present, there remains a question mark over the future of the Twinings Pro-Am Tour, which could see the series reduced to just six rounds for 2012.

John Tanner still leads the way with five titles to his name (1994, 1995, 1997, 2001 and 2002) and is likely to race in this year’s series for the Sportscover Altura RT.

Endura Racing’s Russell Downing dominated the series in 2008 and 2009, and could well do so again following his return to the domestic scene. His team-mate Ian Bibby won last year’s Premier Calendar, with another Endura signing for 2012 – Jonny McEvoy – a close second.

Ian Bibby (now Endura Racing) topped the standings as Motorpoint claimed a one-two-three in last year’s Premier Calendar.
