Cube has collaborated with Swiss Side to develop the design and aerodynamics of its new Aerium C:68 tri bike.
Swiss Side derives from its founders’ Formula 1 expertise and its main business is developing and selling aerodynamic wheelsets, which includes a lot of wind tunnel testing. It has applied this expertise to the new bike, as well as supplying its Hadron Ultimate 800+ wheelset.
“CUBE is a big name in the cycling industry and the right partner to put our Formula 1 expertise to constructive use,” says Jean-Paul Ballard, Swiss Side’s technical director.
“This partnership guarantees the development of a triathlon bike that will set new standards in the bike industry.”
The bike is a prototype with Cube saying it’s worked on the optimisation of the complete rider-bike system. It will be ridden by Andy Raelert, last year’s runner up at Kona.

Cube says its goal was to build the fastest triathlon bike in the world. It’s also looked to provide lots of adjustability to optimise riding position. As with the new Cervélo P5X and the latest BMC Timemachine which have also been launched ahead of Kona, it’s been a multi-year development programme.
The development method has included computational fluid dynamics simulation, wind tunnel testing, building an instrumented bike and performance simulation. The instrumented bike included an array of sensors to measure real world aerodynamic performance and rider input.
Cube says it’s also developed new carbon fibre technology for the C68, with a new resin which includes nanoparticles allowing it to increase the carbon fibre content. It claims that this has been increased from the typical 60% carbon (the balance being the resin that holds the fibres together) to 68%, resulting in a lighter, stiffer build.
