Ian Field (Hargroves Cycles-Ridley) and Hannah Payton (Kinesis UK) took the elite category victories in round three of the British Cycling National Trophy Cyclocross Series on Sunday, hosted by Hetton Lyons Country Park, Sunderland.
Field put in a dominant performance in the elite men’s race to take the win a full 48 seconds ahead of second placed Yorben Van Tichelt (Marlux-Napoleon Games). Paul Oldham (Hope Factory Racing) placed third at one minute and 39 seconds.
The result was much closer in the elite women’s race, as Payton crossed the line just ahead of Bethany Crumpton (Boot Out Breast Cancer). Ffion James (Abergavenny RC) completed the podium in third.
Freshly-minted junior men’s European champion Tom Pidcock appeared to be in a league of his own in the junior men’s race, riding off the front and maintaining his advantage all the way to the line.
Field and Payton lead the respective men’s and women’s overall series standings moving into round four, the penultimate date on the five-round series, which takes place in Ipswich Trinity Park Showgrounds on Sunday, November 27.
