Rohan Dennis and the BMC Racing team took control of the 2015 Santos Tour Down Under on Thursday, with Dennis taking the stage win and the overall classification.
Dennis’s team-mate and fellow Australian Cadel Evans placed second on the stage and is now sat just seven seconds behind Dennis overall.
Torrens Hill Road provided the flashpoint of the race in the final two kilometres, when a select group of contenders sought to gain time on their rivals.
Dennis attacked unmarked whilst BMC’s rivals kept their eye on Evans, in his final WorldTour race before retirement.
The action served as a prelude to Saturday’s penultimate stage, which features two decisive ascents of Old Willunga Hill, traditionally the final sort-out of the general classification.
