Letter from the editor
March is just one day away (when this mag goes on sale) and that really does mean the proper start of the race season. April and July are often feted for their big races, but the truly exciting month is March.
The multiple events not only provide entertaining racing, but all give tantalising glimpses of the big race battles ahead, thus building the excitement.
In March we can marvel at a rider’s promise following a good race, while simultaneously embracing the debate surrounding a bad performance.
It’s also training camp month, as we mention in our ‘Things to do in March’ feature on pages 30-33. Training camp week used to be one of the highlights of my year. One of the most memorable is the year my bike didn’t make it to Majorca. On day one I had to hire a bike and as my shoes were in my missing bike bag, had to ride in my trainers on flat pedals.
Oh, how my club mates laughed. That was until half of them fell off in crosswinds. I was sat right behind the crash and saved myself thanks to the fact I could step straight off my bike and walk away. I couldn’t have done the same in carbon soles and cleats.
Whatever you’re doing, be sure to make the most of March.
