Letter from the editor

Happy new year readers! I hope you had a great Christmas and managed to get out on your bike a few times over
the festive period. I’m actually writing this from the past. Due to printing deadlines
we finished this magazine just before Christmas and then spent the next 10 days keeping our fingers crossed that no major news broke before this Thursday.

That pull-forward, as it is known, means we get a nice bit of time off over Christmas. I used to spend that time getting the miles in, or getting frustrated that I wasn’t getting the miles in. This year I simply planned a couple of rides with friends.

But, big news, I’ve taken the plunge. I’ve got an adventure bike
(also known as a gravel bike) to test and
I’ve been quite excited about trying something different. It’s got a single chainring, disc brakes and 650b wheels (whatever they are); three bits of kit that
are new to me, on road bikes at least.

Not only can I head off-road and try some new rides, but I’ve got a ready-made excuse if I get dropped by my clubmates on their road bikes, and that’s priceless. I’ll let you know how I get on.
