Mark Cavendish will ride in Tour of Britain
Omega Pharma-QuickStep sprinter Mark Cavendish confirmed for Britain's premier stage race, from September 7-14
Mark Cavendish will ride in this year's Tour of Britain, his Omega Pharma-QuickStep team confirmed on Monday.
The 29-year-old Isle of Man sprinter is still on the comeback trail after crashing out of the Tour de France in July on the opening stage to Harrogate. He underwent surgery to correct a separated shoulder as a result of the incident.
A solid performance in last week's Tour de l'Ain saw Cavendish place ninth in the opening prologue. However, he was not named in Omega Pharma's Vuelta a Espana line-up and will face his first year without a Grand Tour stage win since his debut season as a professional in 2007.
He will now line up for the Tour du Poitou Charentes (August 26-29) before taking on the Tour of Britain, which runs from September 7 to 14.
Cavendish will join fellow British rider Bradley Wiggins (Sky) on the ToB start line in Liverpool.

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
