Already a big hit with German cyclists but less ?well-known in the UK, the Austrian firm’s latest Squad range (25mm, 42mm and 58mm) features some clever design trickery.
The wavy edges on the braking surface aren’t just for aesthetics. With a name Arnie would be proud of, the ‘Active Turbulator’ is said to detach the airflow in much the same way as Zipp’s golf ball-style dimples.
The rims are compatible with standard brake pads, though braking was more assured and far more linear with SwissStop pads than with the stock Dura-Ace on our BMC SLR01 test bike, especially in the wet.
Light, stiff, responsive and fast-rolling, these beautifully engineered wheels come at a premium - but might be the only set of racing wheels you ever need.
