Being the current Olympic Road Race Champion is an excellent excuse for a custom paintjob. BMC has happily obliged, by kitting out Greg Van Avermaet with a metallic gold BMC Team Machine SLR01 machine to celebrate his Rio 2016 Olympic Games road race success. The colours of the Olympic rings have also been painted on the side of the top tube.
Van Avermaet posed with his new machine prior to the start of the 2016 Bretagne Classic in Brittany, north-west France. He was also sporting metallic gold sunglasses, and gold cuffs and collar on his BMC team strip. Thankfully, he opted not to go for the gold shoes of previous Olympic champions – for now, at least.

It is not just the frame that has been customised. Fizik has supplied a custom Antares Saddle while there is a gold PC8 head unit courtesy of SRM.
Aside from the striking gold paint Van Avermaet’s bike has standard team kit: a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 electronic drivetrain, and Shimano wheels fitted with Continental Pro ltd tyres, and 3T Ergonova bars and stem.
No doubt Spandau Ballet will love , what is surely The most bling bike in the pro peloton, but what do you think? Is this too much gold? Let us know in the comments…
