Since we spoke to the track star he has encountered another injury when he slipped a disc in his back. The ‘freak accident’ occurred when he was lifting a heavy bag and will now have to miss the European Track Championships in Switzerland.
This competition that was seen as key for his preparations in the lead up to the Track World Championships and 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Part of the gold winning pursuit team at the last two Olympic Games, Clancy may face stiffer competition for his place as more riders come up through the ranks and others return from the road.
