Chris Lawless has come through the British Cycling Academy ranks and now rides for Team Wiggins. Despite only being 20 years old he’s already shown potential, but also had a few knocks and scrapes.

For this edition of Show us Your Scars, the Wigan-born rider shares anecdotes from his younger days and from the most recent racing season.

As a youngster who didn’t want to take his dad’s advice, Lawless went mountain biking a couple of days before a track race. The MTB outing ended with him landing on his face, an injury that thankfully only left a small scar near his eye.

This season, whilst riding for the Academy team at the Tour of Flanders, Lawless went down on a cobbled descent and found himself at the bottom of a pile of riders.

He manages to stay upright most of the time, and when he does he rides well. This year he made his debut at the Ghent Six-Day, which he described as ‘manic’, and had victories on the road at the Grand Prix of Wales and at the Tour Series.
