In this episode of Show us your Scars we talk to the first black African to ever hold the Polkadot Jersey at the Tour de France – Daniel Teklehaimanot.
Teklehaimanot also won the Mountain Classification at the 2015 Criterium du Dauphine, however his road to that race was not an easy one. After the Liege- Bastogne-Liege he returned to Eritrea a week of altitude training. When cycling around the Dbarwa region some riders crashed in front of him, he went down and was left with a nasty gash on his elbow.

His wheel was broken but as he was with his team he could fit a new wheel to the bike and ride home.
Thankfully this was an unusual occurrence in Eritrea as Teklehaimanot says that the drivers generally have a lot of respect for cyclists. He says: “I am happy to be riding at home, always.”
Daniel Teklehaimanot races for Dimension Data and has started his season with a 102nd place finish at the Dubai Tour and 48th at the Tour of Oman.
Check back at midday next Thursday for the next Show us your Scars featuring Tony Gallopin.
