For this week’s instalment of the Show us your Scars series we caught up with Trek-Segafredo rider Bauke Mollema.
Fortunately he has managed to avoid any serious injuries in his career – his worst being a broken elbow that required surgery – but that hasn’t stopped him being a number of crashes throughout his time in the peloton.

He says after a crash he is always a bit afraid and will brake earlier for a corner (it’s nice to know that the pros have doubts too!) and if there has been a big crash involving lots of riders then Mollema believes you can feel this effect throughout the peloton for the next few days, which can often lead to even more crashes.
Mollema has grabbed two Grand Tour top ten finishes in his career including a sixth place at the Tour de France in 2013. He is currently competing in the spring Classics but will no doubt be gearing up for another attempt at cycling’s biggest race in the summer.
Come back at midday next Thursday for the latest instalment of Show us your Scars featuring An Post-Chain Reaction’s Sean Bennett.
