Back in the early days of his career, while riding for the HTC-Highroad team, Greipel suffered his worst crash, going over his handlebars and landing right on his eye socket.
With selection for the Vuelta a España up for grabs, Greipel had to wait until his eye opened up again before getting back into the thick of the action.
