Stage 12 of the Vuelta a España looks – on paper at least – as though it should once again favour an escape group.
A flat opening half to the 160.1-kilometre stage from Motril to Antequera is followed by the 17.4km category one climb of Puerto del León followed by the second category Puerto del Torcal. The latter is situated just 17.7km from the finish.

There could be two fights, therefore – one for the stage victory from the escape group, and the second between the general classification riders from the pack.

The Vuelta continues on Friday with stage 13, a relatively flat day that should provide the sprinters with an opportunity to grab a rare stage win.
