Double world champion and Olympic gold medallist Paolo Bettini talks exclusively about his 12 years at the top in the new edition of Cycle Sport magazine, out now.
As the Italian Classics specialist's career comes to a close, he talks frankly about how his love of the sport is on the wane. "I'm satisfied with my career," Bettini says. "But I don't have the same kind of enthusiasm I had when I was a young professional... when I was a kid it seemed like the best thing in the world."
Bettini sets out his aims for 2008, plus CS looks back at his career highlights and compares him with past one-day greats.
Also in the issue, CS reviews the 2008 edition of Paris-Nice - perhaps the best stage race for 20 years - and goes behind the scenes at a dazzling Race to the Sun. The magazine also meets up with French cycling legend Bernard Hinault to find out why he's back on his bike.
Plus, how to ride Paris-Roubaix by the man who won it twice, Rock Racing: the truth about the world's baddest bike team, pro training with David Millar, Iconic places: Tourmalet, the usual comprehensive round-up of results, comment, analysis and much more.
Cycle Sport May 2008 issue is out now in WHSmith, major supermarkets and all good newsagents priced £4.
