OVER 63,000 Euros have been raised for charity in recent years by Navan Road Club, famous in County Meath for their support of worthy causes. In this case, the money was raised in aid ARC, the Dublin centre which caters for cancer sufferers and their carers.
Each year the club embarks on their sponsored Challenge Cuba ride. Recently, they also raised an additional 10,000 Euros for ARC, with a 24-hour roller race watched by the Major of Navan, Tommy Reilly.
Special Olympics gold medallist John Brady started the event. Niall Doggett, Alan Heary, Brian Collier and Steve McManmon put in long stints on the rollers through the night.
Backbone of the club are Davy Harrison and Teresa Harrison, who were awarded the Navan club?s ?Leisure Cyclists of the Year? award.
