TOUGH SCOTTISH SPORTIVE ADDS NEW DISTANCE

The inaugural Southern Uplands Sportive on July 13 has a newly added shorter route to accompany the 105-mile ride due to popular demand.

The 40-mile Baby Radar starts in Wanlockhead and finishes at Lowther Hill ? the highest road in Scotland ? the same as the full distance event.

Taking in a five-mile climb through the grounds of Drumlanrig Castle and the eight-mile ascent of Dalveen Pass, the final nine miles of climbing to the summit at the radar station at Lowther Hill will provide a challenging route.

Organiser Peter Smith said: ?We have had numerous requests from riders who wanted a crack at the climb of Lowther Hill but didn?t want to do the longer distance. In response we have come up with the Baby Radar to open up the challenge of conquering Scotland?s highest road to a greater number of people.?
