DOCTOR PETER NOWELL'S FUNERAL - AUGUST 10
The funeral of Doctor Peter Nowell, who died aged 77 on July 28, will be on Friday, August 10.
The service will be held at Mossley Hill Church, Rose Lane, Mossley Hill, Liverpool, at 11 a.m and afterwards at Springwood Crematorium, at noon. Family flowers only. Donations to cancer charities appreciated.
Dr Nowell was one of Britain?s first ?independent? racers, riding in the big events of the day ? the Quaker Oats Tour of Britain and the 1958 Milk Race among them.
He was a founder member of Lune RCC and one of the first to join the pioneering British League of Racing Cyclists, the breakaway organisation which laid the foundations for bunched road racing in the UK, previously banned by the national cycling organisations.
Dr Nowell was a senior lecturer in pharmacology at Liverpool University and worked as technical advisor at British Cycling Federation disciplinary hearings. He was also a board member of the Professional Racing Association and often acted as a broker of the peace between the amateurs and professionals. He was deeply respected by both sides.
