Great Britain riding high in new UCI rankings
Great Britain has maintained its top ten position in the UCI rankings after they were re-released following the Vattenfall Cyclassics race in Hamburg, Germany.
Confirmation of GB's top ten position secures nine spots in the men's road race at the world championships in Mendrisio at the end of September. Spain unsurprisingly top the rankings after Alberto Contador's Tour winning ride, with Italy and Australia second and third.
>>>Who should ride the world championships for Great Britain?
France languish in 13th spot, meaning they will only start the worlds road race with seven riders.
Contador sits atop the men's ranking, ahead of Andy Schleck and Roman Kreuziger. Mark Cavendish holds his fourth place just ahead of Alejandro Valverde. Denis Menchov is down in ninth place despite his win in the Tour of Italy.
