SMITHFIELD NOCTURNE - JUNE 23
The inaugural Smithfield Nocturne takes place this Saturday (June 23) with riders from all walks of life set to do battle along the roads that surround the historic meat market in central London.
The Elite race, the main event of the night, starts at 20.20 with the best British riders taking on David Millar of Saunier Duval and Matt Goss of CSC. Bradley McGee is a non-starter after his back injury recurred.
The evening?s racing starts at 17.15 with a regional A race. That?s followed by the All Star Race featuring the great and the good from the British media.
The third race on the program is the bicycle courier race, where the men and women (in black) will race each other through red lights and across pavements to see who can deliver an envelope the fastest.
Then comes the courier race. Race organiser James Pope walked the streets of London to find the competitors for this one, and after a ?Le Mans? style start the folding bike brigade will entertain the crowds by mimicking a mad dash for the office.
