German Lisa Brennauer added a rainbow jersey to her national title as she stormed to victory in the World Championships time trial in Ponferrada, Spain, this afternoon.
Brennauer posted a 38-48.16, as Ukranian Anna Solovey and Evelyn Stevens (USA) took silver and bronze respectively.
The 26-year-old, who has been part of the Specialized-Lululemon team who has won the world team time trial for the past two years, becomes the third German winner of the title since 2007.
"I can't believe it right now, I'm overwhelmed. I need some time to know that it's reality," she said. "I had a really good day. I'm good in the end of a race, and gave it full gas to the finish."
Defending champion Ellen van Dijk (Ned) finished in pouring rain, but after a fast start, she slipped out of contention by half distance. She posted a 39-59.80 to finish seventh.
Commonwealth champion Linda Villumsen's run of five-consecutive podium finishes ended, as the Kiwi ended in ninth.
British Cycling opted against selecting a rider to compete in the event.
