Ben Swift returns home after Majorca crash

Ben Swift on podium, Trofeo Palma, Challenge Mallorca 2013

Ben Swift has returned to the UK after his crash in the final day of the Challenge Majorca last week. The British Sky sprinter fell on the descent of the day's final climb and was taken to hospital.

"To be honest, I don't remember much about it. The last thing I can recall was cresting the summit of the Coll d'Honor and then it all gets pretty hazy. I don't remember anything about the crash itself and my first recollections are of a paramedic and doctor standing over me," Swift wrote on his website.

"After being taken for assessment at a local hospital I flew back to the UK and have undergone some pretty detailed scans in the time since then. Fortunately they've shown no broken bones, and no significant head injuries, so there won't be much time off the bike."

After a period of recovery, Swift will return to Majorca to rejoin his Sky team-mates to prepare for the classics. He is still scheduled to ride in Het Nieuwsblad on February 23.

Prior to the crash in Majorca, Swift had shown that he was riding strongly having placed third on the opening day's Trofeo Palma.
