Developed in conjunction with Swiss textile company Schoeller, the new fabric is composed of a blend of carbon and ceramic prints which is claimed to offer a much greater abrasion resistance than your traditional lycra.
Garments made from the new ProTec technology have been tested by Scott-sponsored road and mountain bike teams over the last two years, although we haven’t noticed too many IAM Cycling riders throwing themselves to the tarmac in an effort to put the anti-road rash claims to the test.
However the technology has also been subjected to lab tests, the results of which can be seen in the video below.
The first pieces of clothing to receive the Scott ProTec treatment will be the RC Pro jersey and shorts, which should be available from February 2015. Price-wise you’re looking at £95 for the short sleeve jersey and £110 for the bibshorts, so roughly £20 more than the current standard models.
