We previously saw a prototype of the new Canyon Speedmax at Eurobike and the Cycle Show. Canyon has finally unveiled the new bike just in time for its official competition debut piloted by Canyon athletes Jan Frodeno, Nils Frommhold, Bas Diederen and Boris Stein, in the Ironman World Championships, Kona, Hawaii.

Although shown launched in a triathlon set up, once the bottle cage and lunch box are removed Canyon stresses that the new bike is 100% UCI legal. This means we can expect to see the likes of Alex Dowsett and Nairo Quintana competing on it in the near future.
Integration is big in the new Speedmax. There is an integrated Garmin mount, bottle cage for the seat post and a really neat tool box in front of the seat post clamp. This is an aerodynamic solution for storing a multi-tool and inner-tube.
Developed in conjunction with Profile Design, the Triathlon specific version also has an integrated water bottle on the front. Note that the TT specific model would not have these, as fairings are banned under the UCI rules.

The old Speedmax had integrated centre pull brakes. Canyon appears to have improved these considerably by collaborating with TRP. The front brake has been re-positioned from the rear of the fork crown to the front results in a stiffer braking platform for improved feel. All braking mechanics are protected behind a flexible cover and are easy to access for assembly and maintenance. The rear brake remains behind the BB, with Canyon insisting the new design is considerably easier to adjust.
According to the official press release, Canyon states that “To enhance aerodynamics with the new Speedmax CF SLX, we took a whole system approach in our CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis and wind tunnel testing. The aim was to create the most efficient setup at 50 km/h. From the frame’s tube profiles to the form of each individual component, every element has been shaped and sculpted in the pursuit of absolute aerodynamic efficiency.”
The new Speedmax CF SLX will be available to order from December 2015. Four models will be available, the details of which we are still waiting on. In the mean time, head over to Canyon for more information.
