- Good looking
- A hard ride
Price as reviewed:
Hope’s Carbon 30 range is available in tubular or clincher versions, along with disc options too. 30mm UD carbon rims, built with CX-Ray stainless steel bladed spokes on their own Mono Aero hubs (20h front and 24h rear), hint at a stern ride; a price often paid for a hardwearing wheelset.
With the varying terrain of the Kent and Surrey roads we found them to be great all-rounders. Speed pick-up is good and together with the relatively lightweight construction and stiff carbon rim make for a great climbing option.
Descending was also a joy with reliable braking, which can often be a little hit and miss with carbon clinchers. We were impressed with the ability to maintain good braking performance throughout, both in dry and wet conditions.
We’ve ridden these wheels through the winter into summer and haven’t seen any wear or tear just yet. That, topped off with 11-speed compatibility and the option of Shimano, SRAM and Campag freehub bodies means you can safely say Hope has thought of everything.
