Road cycling shoe design is making great strides for next season, with a host of exciting new models hitting the shelves for 2017.

Shoe designers have continued to find ways of making their products lighter, more comfortable and stronger – and also haven’t held back in giving their shoes a unique look. We took a look at a selection of new models at the recent Eurobike show.

SIDI is releasing the 2017 Shot model, as worn by Chris Froome (Sky) on his way to winning his third Tour de France title. The company claims the new Shot is lighter, more breathable and more aerodynamic than previous SIDI shoes.

Giro’s ProLight Techlace lives up to its name, weighing just 138g for the 8.5 size and featuring Velcro straps, but with the look of conventional laces.

Bont’s Vaypor + has been given an update for 2017, with a Kangaroo leather upper for comfort. B’Twin’s Aerofit Carbon comes with – you guessed it – a carbon-fibre sole, two dial closure and is available in black and white, or red and blue.

One of the most noticeable trends is for shoes to feature patterns of holes in the uppers. Scott’s RC Lace model features rows of holes running diagonally down the sides and finished with a classic-looking lace-up closure and carbon sole.

Shimano’s S-Phyre shoe also features holes in its design, with two Boa dials keeping the shoes firmly in place and aiding a close yet comfortable fit. For 2017, the shoe boasts a redesigned heel cup, which on the model featured has a gloss black finish to contrast with the satin white of the rest of the upper.

Bold graphics on Mavic’s Cosmic Pro Ltd made sure you are in no doubt who made this bright shoe. It’s the company’s top-end shoe and features two-dial closure system.

Northwave has opted for a one-dial closure on its Extreme RR shoe, which also features Northwave’s X-Frame technology designed to remove pressure points.

Perhaps one of the more striking shoes, despite its subtle colour, is DMT’s RS1 with Skeleton closure system, giving a ribbed effect.
