Vasil Kiryienka’s victory in the Elite mens time trial at the 2015 World Championships was a surprise to some, however, the 34 year old Belarusian had enjoyed a very consistent year, also winning his national time trial and European titles.
The titles are emblazoned on Kiryienka’s top tube and fork. The top tube also features a traditional Belarussian or The pattern, derived from local plants and flowers
The groupset is a full Dura Ace Di2 with satellite shifters on the handle bars to compliment the time trial shifters on the aerobars. Skate board tape is affixed to the bars for added grip. One of the most striking features is the monster 58t chainring.
Many top time trialists favour large rings like this, because they can get a more efficient chain line on a 58-17 than a 53-11, saving precious watts. Speaking of which, power measurement is via a Stages meter on the non drive side crank.
The trispoke front and disc rear, are provided by Shimano’s components division ‘PRO’, while Kiry’s saddle of choice remains the popular Fizik Arione. The Belarusian doesn’t like his saddle slammed forward either, so he shouldn’t trouble UCI officials checking that the nose is not in front of the bottom bracket.
Tyres are 22mm continental Pro ltd tubulars with latex inner tubes while the weight was 8.9kg, which is roughly what you would expect for a TT bike.
Having spent most of his career in the service of team leaders, Kiryienka was a highly deserving and popular winner. Is this the coolest TT bike in the pro peloton? Let us know what you think.
