Here's what happened in the last four kilometres of the World Championships road race (video)
In case you were wondering
After faultless coverage of a stellar week of racing, the organisers couldn't have hoped for a worst moment for a technical fault as the cameras cut out with four kilometres to go in the elite men's road race.
That left viewers at home experiencing the race in the same way as the spectators at the side of the road, relying on static cameras to see who would come under the flamme rouge first.

Julian Alaphilippe had left fellow escapee Gianni Moscon to go solo with four kilometres remaining when the cameras cut out, with the Danes and Italians then taking up the chase behind.
However Alaphilippe's lead was mainly eroded by a number of attacks from the group behind, as three riders bridged across with 1.5km to go.
One of those, Magnus Cort Nielsen, then went solo shortly before the flamme rouge, but was caught by a huge effort by Italy's Alberto Bettiol shortly after to set up a bunch sprint which would be won by Peter Sagan.
