Five ways life can surprise you, and how Wahoo's tech can help maintain data consistency to keep you training
Life doesn’t need to put a halt to your training – Wahoo’s ecosystem can keep you on track
Life is definitely not static, and at times can be overwhelmingly busy or simply require changes to your regular schedule. A family, work or personal issue can often throw a curveball at your riding plans, even for the most dedicated rider. And because consistency is key to improvements, having a convenient, efficient session can keep you on track.
Wahoo supports you in any scenario, and the indoor training ecosystem can become a key element in outdoor performance.
All data automatically backs up to the Wahoo account, as it does from your Wahoo ELEMNT cycling computer, creating reliable and uninterrupted stats from which to monitor your progress, through metrics such as Training Capacity, Fitness Score and Dimensional Training Load.
Read on to discover how Wahoo can keep you training year-round, no matter what life throws at you.
1. Short, effective sessions help you maximise time when family or parental duties squeeze it
When time is short, maximise the minutes you do have
Unexpected family commitments, childcare, or having limited time to train just early in the morning or late at night, make time precious. Indoor sessions take out the freewheeling so you can maximise every pedal stroke within a small window, without skirting your responsibilities.
A Wahoo KICKR Core 2 trainer paired with the Wahoo SYSTM app will keep things fun and focused, even when you’re seriously short of time. This model has had several updates, including WiFi connection and race mode, where power readings update 10x faster for even more accurate real-time stats. The Wahoo SYSTM library has tonnes of short, sharp sessions under 45 minutes, and there’s no time-consuming planning or extra work – you can simply grab your kit and start pedalling. Bleary-eyed mornings or that 45-minute gap you have before a feed will become the perfect moment to squeeze in a workout.
2. A library of workouts means you can replicate rides indoors when rain or dropping temperatures stop you in your tracks
Keep dry when it's pouring down outside
Unpredictable weather can put a damper on pre-planned road rides. Whether it’s a sudden temperature drop or an incoming storm, sometimes it feels like abandoning the ride is the best option. Wahoo’s trainers mean you don’t have to, and you can simply move your ride into the comfort of your own home. Longer endurance rides are catered to on the SYSTM app. Maybe you just want a long easy ride at your own pace, a structured workout or to test the climbing legs, the SYSTM app have loads of options of up to 4 hours, and a filter function that you can set your preferences, such as elevation and time. The KICKR Bike Pro even tilts the frame up and down to match the elevation.
With Wahoo’s KICKR V6 smart trainer reading maximum power outputs of 2200 watts and simulating big climbs, it’s an excellent alternative to a long ride in the local hills. The realistic ride feel is another plus, with KICKR AXIS Feet responding to body changes for a side-to-side movement that truly mimics how you pedal.
It might be cold outside, but you’re going to get sweaty fast, even with the windows open. The KICKR Headwind brings a solution through smart cooling. Unlike other fans that you have to change manually, the already advanced Headwind adapts power and airflow pattern to your body movements, temperature and pace. Bluetooth connects it to your trainer and the app, and you can even manually connect it in the Wahoo app — useful if there are two of you avoiding bad weather.
3. Let Wahoo SYSTM do the thinking when work deadlines get in the way
Take the thinking out of training with structured sessions
A sudden deadline crops up and you’re just not going to make it out of the office in time for the weekly paceline. Sometimes it’s better to just accept that your original ride isn’t going to go ahead and plan for a session once home instead. After a heavy day, you can switch off from the stress using one of SYSTM’s workouts, intelligently adapted to your goals and fitness level, and not have to think about anything but turning the pedals.
4. Guide yourself back to fitness after injury or illness
Guide yourself back with sessions tailored to your fitness
You may have picked up an injury or illness, but don’t want to lose any fitness. Both a smart Wahoo KICKR and the SYSTM app come into play here. An indoor trainer is excellent for maintaining fitness for when you can’t ride outside but are able to sit and pedal on a static bike, and you can adapt your session accordingly through the app.
When you’ve picked up an illness, Wahoo can support you through your recovery. You may notice some changes in heart rate activity and an inability to put the power down in the way you could before you got ill. You can use training metrics in the app to monitor your health. It’s important to take time off and rest if necessary so you can come back stronger, but once you feel up to it, you might want to do one of the recovery workouts, or some gentle yoga that’s available on the app.
5. Keep it up, even if your bike is in the workshop
Missing your 'main' bike? Power up with an older one, or your summer bike in winter
Sometimes having your bike in the workshop is going to affect your riding plans. Many cyclists don’t want to ride their summer bike outside on damp roads. This is where a Wahoo trainer comes in. You can put your best bike on a Wahoo KICKR or KICKR Core smart trainer and keep the riding going without getting it dirty.
If you only have one bike, the KICKR Bike Pro provides an immersive experience, and it’s a complete system that doesn’t require you to fit your own bike. The Pro offers five points of adjustment to get the fit right, plus ergonomic shifters, premium finishing kit and the same accuracy, power readings and physical grade changes as its predecessor. This bike redefines indoor cycling, with an unmatched real ride feel, the ability to match gear ratios to those of your outdoor bike, and integrated game controllers that create Zwift-style navigation.
When life gets in the way of your cycling plans, Wahoo is there to keep things consistent. Indoor graft can be an excellent way to see performance gains out on the roads, and sometimes training in your home is a necessity if you have to adapt your training around your life. The Wahoo ecosystem is a complete tool that has undergone recent refinement to support the schedule of every cyclist and keep your indoor training consistent and connected to the riding you do outside. Wahoo’s SYSTM app complements the KICKR indoor trainer line-up, making training indoors the perfect alternative to training outside, whatever your reason.
