Hushovd to ride Tour of Britain
World Champion Thor Hushovd will head up Garmin-Cervelo's squad for the 2011 Tour of Britain, which takes place over September 11-18.
The Norwegian double 2011 Tour de France stage winner will use the race as a warm-up before defending his world title at the UCI World Championships in Copenhagen at the end of September.
Hushovd was controversially not selected to ride for the US-based Garmin-Cervelo team in the Vuelta a Espana, which starts in Benidorm on Saturday (August 20). It was announced last week that Hushovd will switch to the BMC Racing team in 2012.
Riding alongside Hushovd on Garmin's provisional line-up for the Tour will be Britons David Millar, Daniel Lloyd and Roger Hammond. New Zealander Julian Dean and Dutchman Martijn Maaskant complete the team.
"We are very pleased to have such a strong Garmin Cervélo line-up racing at this year's Tour of Britain, and very much look forward to welcoming the current World Champion Thor Hushovd to The Tour," Tour of Britain race director Mick Bennett commented.
"British fans will also be looking forward to seeing Roger Hammond, Dan Lloyd and David Millar in action. We saw during the Eneco Tour that David is currently in great form, so I'm sure he will be highly motivated to do well in the TfL London stage individual time trial."
The 2011 Tour of Britain starts in Scotland on September 11, and then visits the north-west of England, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire Devon, Somerset and East Anglia before finishing in London with a decisive individual time trial stage and criterium on September 18.

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
