WALES AND MERSEYSIDE MOURN LOSS OF WREXHAM'S TERRY SMITH
NORTH Wales and Merseyside are mourning the loss of Terry Smith, of Fibrax Wrexham RC, who died on September 21 after a long illness. He was 81.
Smith, a gifted rider in his youth and passionate about cycling, was a prolific organiser throughout his life.
He was one of the British League of Racing Cyclists? stalwarts of the turbulent 1950s, setting up the Wrexham Premier as an off-shoot to the Wrexham Road Club, to promote the Continental sport of road racing, in direct opposition the ruling cycling bodies of that era.
The new club enjoyed a fantastic start, scoring 30 teams in their first season.
His enthusiasm for the sport new no bounds and he is especially remembered for his 20 years as organiser of the popular, annual Horseshoe Pass hill-climb at Llangollen in North Wales.
Smith also organised many charity rides, often taking part himself.
He leaves his wife, Mary their three children and grandchildren.
