Cycle festivals are attracting the stars to further fundraising. Northern Rock Cyclone taking place on Friday 12th June to Sunday 14th June, has added a Celebrity Cyclone Challenge to spice up an already packed schedule.
In the form of a one kilometer time trial 10 celebrities will race each other in front of thousands of spectators in Cyclone?s Elite Criterium race in Leazes Park on the evening of Friday 12th June. The fastest star will win funds for their dedicated charity.
Famous faces confirmed are local footballing legend Peter Beardsley, Olympic stars Steve Cram and Allison Curbishley, Newcastle Eagles players Fabulous Flournoy and team mate Andrew Sullivan, Ex-England and Crystal Palace footballer Geoff Thomas, BBC Look North?s Jeff Brown and Metro Radio presenter Steve Colman.
The festival has many formats with a Criterium on Friday that involves all from the novice to the elites, including Olympic and World Champions. Saturday?s sportive has three different distances to ensure everyone gets a challenge. Each distance 33, 62 and 101 miles, all meander through the beautiful Northumbrian countryside. The grand finale of the festival culminates on Sunday with Britain’s top riders competing in a six lap Premier Calendar event.
