Andy Fenn working hard to be a driving force in Sky's Classics campaign

Andy Fenn, now starting his second season with Team Sky, was working hard in the team’s final winter training camp, pushing hard – and being pushed hard – in training in Mallorca.

25-year-old Fenn was buckling down to it, “For me the main focus will be the Spring Classics," said the quietly spoken Fenn.

"We’ve got a really young group for those races now, with Ian Stannard and Luke (Rowe) as our two main guys, with G (Geraint Thomas) and (Michal) Kwiatkowski coming in, but they probably won’t be doing all of the cobbled races.

"My goal is to be the third guy of that core group - with Stannard and Luke – that’d be nice.”

Fenn has a good record as an under-23 rider on the cobbles and enjoys – if such a word is appropriate – races like Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders.

“I did the senior Roubaix for the first time last year and there’s just something about it…its special, it’s so different. And I liked Strade Bianche too, which I did for the first time.

"I think I punctured about 15 times in it and gravel is a bit harder to ride than cobbles and with the wind as well, it was a great race. With Roubaix it was more or less what I expected and it was good to see where I was in relation to really achieving something in the finale of a race like that.”

Given another year of racing and surviving another interval-heavy training camp, Fenn should be a little closer to the front this April.
