A brief program of racing on Sunday morning in the Track World Championships in Palma saw Craig MacLean defeated by his long-standing rival Theo Bos in the semi-final round of the sprints.

Dutchman Bos edged MacLean into silver last year in 2006 at Bordeaux, and on this occasion the double World Champion once again had the edge on the Scot, beating him in two successive rounds.

MacLean now takes on Frenchman Mickael Bourgain in the fight for bronze this evening, whilst Bos will be battling another Frenchman, Gregory Bauge, for gold.

The good news for Great Britain on Sunday morning was that both Victoria Pendleton and Anna Blyth made it through the qualifying rounds in the keirin thanks to victories in their respective classification heats.

Next up for GB is the men’s kilometre event this afternoon, where Chris Hoy will endeavour to add a third gold to the two he has already taken in the discipline at the World’s.
