SRAM is adding more to its road range with the introduction of compact chainsets. Both Force and Rival get 50×34 and 50×36 combinations respectively.

Providing the ideal way to maintain a manageable range of gears when doing lots of climbing, compacts have really gained in popularity over the past few years. By reducing the size of the chainring bolt circle, it is possible to fit smaller chainrings while retaining a close ratio block and the look of a ?proper? racing bike.

The end result of this is to retain a comfortable range of gears at the expense of one or two large gears. In reality this is very little of a sacrifice, and it is something that is well worth considering for all riders.
