Name: Sharon Laws

Age: 34

From: Kenya originally, but lives in the UK

Disciplines: Women?s Road Race

Career synopsis: Laws originally competed in mountain biking and used the road simply to hone her form. Earlier this year however, Laws finished second in the Australian national road race (riding as an Australian) and was approached by Dave Brailsford to ride for the Halfords? Bikehut Team on the road. Since then, Laws has joined the British Olympic squad (and taken British citizenship) and will be a useful addition to Cooke and Pooley on the road.

Titles held: 2008 National 25 mile time trial champion.

Two things you didn?t know about… Until early 2008, Laws was working full time as an environmental advisor with mining firm Rio Tinto in Melbourne. The Australian road race championships, where she was second, was only her eighth ever road race.
