24-HOUR ROAD RACE ANNOUNCED

After the success of 24-hour mountain bike events, it's always been a mystery why there hasn't ever been a similar event for roadies... now there is. The Shimano 24hr Road Race takes place over July 12-13, 2008, on a closed circuit in the Brecon Beacons, Wales.

Members of each five-rider team will compete around the 8.7-mile circuit at the Sennybridge army training area - the team who complete the most circuits in the 24 hour period win the event.

Provelo Support - the organisers of the seminal 24-hour mountain bike race, Mountain Mayhem - are behind the event.

?They said it could never be done, but now here we are creating yet another landmark enduro event," said Patrick Adams of Provelo. "Ten years ago Madison and I worked hard to create the UK?s first 24 hour mountain bike event and now once again it is only right that we are working together to create this new watershed for enduro road racing?.

The circuit has enough features to prevent riders from nodding off during those early morning hours. Each 8.7-mile (14 kilometre) loop contains 275 metres of climbing. A video of the circuit can be found below.
