Womersley wins Yorkshire Points 'cross in Wakefield

Exciting young prospect Jake Womersley (Altura Sportscover) took victory in the latest round of the Yorkshire Points Series in West Yorkshire, securing his first win of the season in convincing style at Thornes Park in Wakefield.

The 16-year-old crossed the line 46 seconds ahead of his nearest rival after taking over at the front early in the race and powering on alone, while Simon Maudsley (Dirtwheels Cycles) was second and Andrew Stuart (Nottingham Clarion) third.

Further south, Dan Booth (Hope Factory Racing) put in a commanding performance in the second round of the Waldrons Solicitors West Midlands League.

He used an impressive display of strength and technical ability to ride away from the field early on in the race at Shrewsbury Sports Village, where Tom Payton (Isla Bikes) was second.

In Lancashire, three-time British Champion Nick Craig (Scott UK) took victory in the second round of the North West League at Leverhulme Park in Bolton, while Dieter Droger (Dirtwheels Cycles) was second.

Reigning National Trophy Series champion Paul Oldham (Hope Factory Racing) continued his build-up to the title defence next month when he took an easy win in the third round of the CXNE Rat Race Series at Prissick Base near Middlesbrough.

Oldham won by around a minute and a half meaning CXNE series leader Tony Fawcett, who had won the first two rounds of the series, had to settle for second spot on Sunday.

Nottingham rider Gareth Whittall was celebrating on Saturday after winning a round of the SRAM Notts and Derby League in his home city - a victory which was the Clay Cross RT rider's first ever after more than a decade riding the league.

And in Essex, Matt Webber (London Phoenix) won the third round of the Elmy Cycles Eastern League at the Redbridge circuit, adding to the victory he secured in the opening round a fortnight ago.

Mark Cotton (Ellmore Factory Racing) won the third round of the Lincolnshire League at Quibell Park in Scunthorpe after a thrilling sprint finish on Sunday, when he just held off Charge Bikes rival Chris Metcalfe by a matter of inches.

And in Wales, Andrew Baum (Cwmcarn Paragon) made it two wins out of two with a commanding performance at Risca Leisure Centre in Caerphilly, where heavy rain had made the conditions treacherous.

* In road racing, Tour of Britain rider Matt Cronshaw (Node 4-Giordana) secured victory in the John Walker Trophy at Great Milton in Oxfordshire, where he held off Herbalife rival Jamie Shirlaw to notch up his eighth win of the season.
