DAVIES JONES TAKES FIRST WIN OF SEASON
SCORING the first major victory of the season for Swift Racing, Emma Davies Jones won a two-up sprint finish to the GP Evergem in Belgium on Saturday.
Against strong competition which included newly-crowned World Champion Jo Rowsell, Davies Jones attacked on the first of 13 laps, and after being joined by Australian Leonie Burford, they quickly moved 40 seconds clear of the bunch.
With her team-mates working hard to control the bunch, the move never looked like being captured and as their lead grew to more than one minute they prepared for a sprint.
As the duo turned the final corner, Davies Jones was on Burford?s wheel, and eased past as they reached the line.
Team-mate Toni Bradshaw from New Zealand battled for third spot at the head of the bunch, but she was pipped to the final podium spot by Nathalie van Gogh of the Netherlands.
Today (Sunday), the team are set to ride a 100-kilometre hilly classic at Incourt, southern Belgium.
