Strava clocks Scottish politician speeding after he forgets to switch off app

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie was clocked by Strava at travelling over 80mph down the M90 after apparently forgetting to stop the app after a ride

Strava is the cycling app that has taken over the world, but Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie must wish he had never downloaded it.

Rennie, who attended the Pedal on Parliament event in Edinburgh on Saturday, forgot to switch off the GPS app after arriving on two wheels and was clocked travelling at 81mph on his drive home.

The Daily Record reports that the politician averaged a leisurely 11mph during the demonstration ride at the weekend, but his drive home Kelty, Fife, was a little more rapid.

The paper reports Strava clocked Rennie travelling at 81.2mph on the M90, 11mph over the speed limit.

A Scottish Liberal Democrat spokesman told the Record: “This is an app for measuring running and cycling, not cars travelling on motorways.

“Willie always tries to stick to the speed limit and does not believe he broke it on this drive, but it is always worth everyone remembering the importance of driving safely.”
