Miche launches new tubeless ready wheelsets for 2017

Italian brand expands and refines its clincher and tubular wheelset offerings for 2017

Miche has recently announced its 2017 wheelset range. On trend, it includes wider, tubeless-ready rims, disc brake options and thru-axle compatibility. Miche has increased the internal rim width of all its new clinchers to 17mm.

New Supertype tubs

Top of the Miche tree is the Supertype range. The new 38mm tubular-only rim braked wheelset has a claimed weight of 1195g. Rim width is 23mm. It’s also available as a 38mm/50mm pair with weight claimed at 1245g and a 50/50mm pair at 1290g. Price is £1600.

New SWR carbon clinchers and tubs

The SWR range has wider spoke placement at the hub for a 10% increase in rigidity, without any weight increase. It’s available as a clincher or tubular in two different rim depths: 36mm (38mm for the tub) and 50mm and Miche sells a mixed depth pair, making a total of three different wheelset combos. All are laced with Sapim stainless steel bladed spokes.

SWR range includes mixed depth 36/50mm wheelset option

The clincher rim is tubeless ready without needing tape, as it has a sealed rim bed. It’s made of a unidirectional carbon and the rim brake version has a high temperature brake track which Miche machines using a trade secret process. Miche says it’s tested them on its test rigs at temperatures in excess of 250C, as well as wet testing them using its supplied brake pads.

Also on trend, there’s a disc brake version of the SWR, with a disc-specific rim and Centerlock rotor compatibility. These ship with 12mm thru-axle compatibility, but Miche also sells a £35 kit to convert to other standards; this works with all Miche’s 2017 hubs.

Revox carbon clincher wheelset includes disc brake option

Miche says it’s tested the rims’ aerodynamics in an Italian wind tunnel and the SWR is hand built to a tolerance of +/-0.2mm. There are four graphics options to round things off and price is £1199 per set. Claimed weight is from 1580g for a pair of 36mm clinchers and 1290g for 38mm tubs, with the 50mm clinchers weighing 1610g a pair.

New £999 Revox and £179 Race wheelsets

Also new this year is the Revox wheelset. At a slightly lower price point, it comes as 38mm rim or disc braked clinchers. Miche uses J-bend stainless steel Sapim spokes with a 2:1 ratio in the rear wheel. Wheelset weight is 1650 grams, although with a pierced rim bed the wheelset is not tubeless ready.

Alloy Race wheelset includes a disc brake option

Miche targets its alloy rimmed Race wheelset as an all-round training wheel. Weighing 1860g per pair, it comes with Sapim bladed stainless spokes with brass nipples. As well as rim brake, there’s also a Centerlock disc brake option weighing 1990g.
