Jason Kenny took his third medal of the 2010 European Track Championships in Pruszkow, Poland this evening when he won the Keirin title.
The 22 year old rider added the gold medal to the bronze medals he claimed in the team sprint on Friday and the individual sprint yesterday.
Kenny took the title by coming around fellow British team mate Matt Crampton in the closing metres of the finish straight. The pair had headed the field since Crampton had accelerated hard from mid-field with two laps to go.
Stringing out the rest of the opposition, it was clear by the back straight of the last lap that victory would be going to one of the British riders - both of whom had passed through the earlier rounds unbeaten.
Despite Kenny having earlier declared Crampton "a bit of a maestro at the Keirin," the younger rider was able to emerge from his slipstream on the final bend and inch past him by the line. 24 year old Crampton nonetheless secured silver while Czech Adam Ptacnik was third.
There was no such joy for British riders in the women's event. Feeling inhibited by a pair of fast-accelerating French riders marking her, Vicky Pendleton had to settle for fifth place behind winner Olga Panarina (Belarus).
Pendleton made a bid for the front on the bell but was unable to get near it. Meanwhile in the minor final, Jess Varnish clipped a wheel and crashed out.
