Sky, Cannondale, Omega Pharma, Belkin for 2014 Tour of California
Team Sky will again take part in the Amgen Tour of California, one of nine WorldTour squads lining up for America's biggest stage race in May.
Sky will come up against regular WorldTour sparring partners Cannondale, Belkin, Garmin-Sharp, Argos-Shimano, BMC Racing, Trek, Omega Pharma-Quickstep and Orica-GreenEdge. Seven other teams will also compete in the race, bringing the total number of squads to 16.
Cannondale's multi-Tour of Calidfornia stage winner Peter Sagan and Trek veteran Jens Voigt are among those scheduled to start the race.
"Over the past four years I‘ve had some of my best performances here," said Sagan. "The Amgen Tour of California will always be a priority in my season, I hope to continue to have great results again this year and win another green jersey. I think green and gold is a good combination!"
At 42 years old, this season will be Voigt's last in the pro peloton: "I take pride in the fact that I participated in every single edition of the Amgen Tour of California since it started! I love this race and have seen it grow and become bigger and better every year. And now, going into my last season as an active pro rider, I want to be part of this spectacular race once more. California, here I come!"
The UCI-ranked 2.HC 2014 Tour of California takes place over May 11-18. Last year's race was won by Tejay van Garderen (BMC Racing).
