Greg Van Avermaet to ride a gold Giant TCR in 2019 (video)

Custom Giant bike created as an homage to his Olympic gold medal

Giant has revealed Greg Van Avermaet's custom gold and black Giant TCR that he'll ride this season.

The front end is resplendent in gold before fading to black at the rear end with the bike designed to honour the Belgian's Olympic road race gold medal that he won at the 2016 Rio games.

Along the top tube, the bike features other homages to the Olympic champion's victories, including the symbol of the city of Rio complete with Christ the Redeemer statue, the trident of Tirreno-Adriatico and a cobblestone symbolising his victory at Paris-Roubaix in 2017. On the back of the down tube the bike features Van Avermaet's personal logo.

The bike also has a one piece Giant Contact bar and stem, giving the TCR a slight aero advantage and a very neat front end, with the cables running through the bar and into the stem.

The unit is finished with neat golden touches while the bike is finished almost completely with Giant's own brand finishing kit, including deep section wheels and saddle.

In the video Van Avermaet explains that he believes "having fun is the most important thing in life and cycling", and that when you have fun the results will come.

He says how he was given the freedom by Giant to design the bike he wanted and that he aimed to achieve the cleanest look possible, and that the bike is giving him the inspiration to have success in a year where he carries the sole hopes of the new CCC Team. In 2019, he is aiming for wins at the Tour of Flanders and the World Championships in Yorkshire.

The bike is matched by a gold Giant helmet and a gold set of sunglasses as well as gold finishing touches to Van Avermaet's CCC Team kit.
